I was in line at the drive-up bank window behind an Escalade with a big bumper sticker that read, "America, Love it or Leave it!" I hadn't seen that phrase since the end of the Viet Nam War and I couldn't imagine that anyone would want to go back to a time when our nation was so angry and divided. Patriotism sure doesn't have much to do with whose foreign policies we support. I think there's a backlash building against the "us and them" Americans, the vitriolic Coulters, O'Reillys et al. We're amused by them but they sure haven't changed many votes during this Republican primary. Most of us realize that only in compromise and concensus will we find the national strength to defend and advance our American ways of life, faith and government.

"My way or the highway" only makes for nasty divorces.

So, speak frequently, with civility, and listen to the people who disagree with you, and send me $5 for two of these 3 3/4 x 15 inch vinyl stickers. They can be cut horizontally to fit bumpers that are narrow or curve in two axes. The text is big enough that folks won't have to tailgate you read it. [see photos below]

HERE is the 10x15 flag I hang at my corner on certain patriotic holidays.
