These are one of the nicest mechanical features of the lamps. These tiny ball swivels, made by IW Industries of LI, let you aim the light where you need it or tip a shade down to keep the light out of your eyes.

They're solid brass, hold these heavy shades in position, don't loosen up over time and are "lock" swivels. Lock swivels only rotate 350 degrees, so you can tighten the socket, shade holder or swivel onto the lamp without twisting the wire inside.
